What is Google Analytics? (And why should I care?)

Yeah, we’re going there today. If you’re a business with a website, you should care about Google Analytics. I’ll tell you why in a minute.

I’m glad you asked! It’s analytics with the power of google behind it.

Let me take it one step further – it’s a free, powerful analytics tool that gives you insight as to who is visiting your site, when they are visiting, and what they’re doing when they get there.

So why should you care about Google Analytics?

Google Analytics gives you (or your “marketing department”) power to see what’s happening on your site. With this information, you can revise, refine, and update your website to be an even better marketing tools. And that can lead to more conversions.

With Google Analytics you can:

1. See who is visiting your site

2. See when customers are visiting

This is especially valuable information when you’re blogging, or want to run a promotion for the most impact. It’s also helpful to know when to run updates, as you can see when site maintenance would have the smallest impact.

3. See where site visitors are coming from

This one is especially interesting. Google Analytics allows you to see where users are coming from! It will show you organic search, paid search, direct, or even social acquisition. (Bonus! If you click on social, you can see which social channels are sending you the most traffic!)

4. Watch what users do when they get to your site

This is one of the most fascinating areas of Google Analytics – Get insight as to how users are navigating through your site! See where they’re going, when they drop off, and how they get around your site.

5. See your top performing content

Google Analytics will also tell you your most visited pages. This is great because you can see what’s popular, and what isn’t, so you can keep creating what the people want! (And that’s what it’s all about, right? Taking care of your people.
